A rock may sit inches from the lens, a river may curve through the middle of the scene, and distant mountains may stretch toward the horizon. Choose Consistent Camera Settings
Consistency matters more than finding one universal exposure recipe.
For many landscapes, f/8 to f/11 provides a useful balance between depth of field and fine detail.
Keep ISO as low as conditions reasonably allow, but don’t sacrifice the shutter speed needed for moving grasses, leaves, or waves to force ISO 100. RAW files provide extra flexibility when matching tone and color before blending.
Locking exposure throughout the sequence also helps the photographs merge smoothly. Keep white balance consistent, so one frame doesn’t suddenly look warmer or cooler than another.

Likewise, a soft foreground object along the edge may not need to become crisp if it serves only as atmosphere or framing. Sharpness should support the visual hierarchy, not flatten it.
This matters in fog, mist, backlight, and layered mountain scenes. Atmospheric softness often communicates distance beautifully. Forcing identical detail into every plane can reduce the depth you wanted to create.

Process the source files consistently before combining them. Apply matching white balance, lens corrections, basic tonal adjustments, and color treatment across the group.

- Open the selected photographs as layers.
- Select every layer.

- Inspect the masks at high magnification.

- Crop misaligned edges and finish your edits.
Never assume an automated blend is perfect.
