Photographing a graduation is a once-in-a-lifetime event that you want to capture in the best possible way. Whether you’re a professional photographer or a parent capturing the moment with a smartphone, here are some tips on how to photograph a graduation.

How To photograph a graduation
  1. Know the schedule: Graduation ceremonies can be lengthy, and it’s essential to know the schedule of events. This way, you can plan your shots and not miss the important moments. – arrive early to scope out the location and plan your shots.
  2. Use a fast lens: Graduation ceremonies are often held in large venues with poor lighting, making it challenging to take clear photos. A fast lens with a low f-stop will allow you to take sharp photos in low-light conditions.
  3. Use the right settings: When photographing a graduation, it’s important to use the right camera settings. Use a high ISO setting to compensate for low light and a fast shutter speed to freeze action and avoid motion blur. Shoot in burst mode to capture multiple shots in quick succession.
  4. Capture candid moments: Candid shots are often the most memorable, capturing genuine emotions and reactions. Keep an eye out for candid moments such as the graduate hugging a family member or high fiving a friend.
  5. Take a variety of shots: Don’t limit yourself to just one type of shot. Take a mix of wide-angle shots to capture the overall scene, as well as close-up shots to capture details and emotions. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to add variety to your photos.
  6. Pay attention to the background: The background of your photos can make or break the shot. Make sure there are no distracting elements in the background, such as clutter or people walking around. Look for clean backgrounds, such as a plain wall or a beautiful landscape.

How to photograph a graduation is about capturing the emotion and joy of the moment. By following these tips, great photos can be achieved and cherished for years to come.
